South Africa are in a huddle.. The Indian openers walk out. It will be Steyn to start off. One slip in place..

Welcome back.. India looked shell-shocked at the end of South Africa's carnage. Remember - Johannesburg, 2006? Who will be India's Gibbs? Who will play the role of Mick Lewis? Or will India simply collapse. There's one chance though, if there's any rain and the match is reduced to a 20-overs chase, India will need to be at 158/0 to end up on the winning note.

de Kock: 'It's been good. There are good wickets here and you got to cash in when you can. Everytime I come here, I want to do well. I was extremely happy to get to my hundred. It's a good surface, it might change now. It was a little slower but it might quicken up. Hopefully, we can take a couple of wickets early on, hopefully there will be a bit of movement. This has just become a normal thing for AB (talking about de Villiers' knock). He doesn't even celebrate like he used to. Just puts his bat up and says thank you.'

On the other hand, India would rue the fact that they dropped a slew of catches. Mohit dropped de Kock. Mishra and Rahane shelled one chance each. du Plessis was the lucky batsman on both occasions. The only bowler, who offered some control for MS Dhoni was Harbhajan Singh. Bhuvneshwar went for 106 runs in his quota of 10 overs. He now has given away the most runs by an Indian in ODIs. It is a flat deck and the outfield is lightning fast. However, the Indian batsmen have a herculean task on their hands.

Interestingly, every time he has reached a fifty, he has converted it into a century against India. Once de Kock was prised out by Suresh Raina, de Villiers took over and recorded his third century of the series. He posted his century in a mere 57 balls. Even when he miscued a pull off Bhuvneshwar in the 39th over, it sailed into the stands. His innings consisted of a mere three fours and as many as 11 sixes!

Even when one hand came off the bat handle, he was able to loft Bhuvneshwar Kumar for a boundary through the off-side in the 44th over. Eventually, he retired hurt due to cramps. Lest we forget that de Kock and de Villiers too flayed India's attack. After Hashim Amla was chugged down at the start of the innings by Mohit, de Kock essayed some sparkling lofted shots.

In particular, du Plessis, once he reached his century smashed the opposition to smithereens. In the 43rd over bowled by Axar Patel, he played a volley of thunderous strokes by thwacking three sixes and a boundary. Remember, he was suffering from cramps, yet he continued to muscle the ball and scythed it through all corners of the ground.

It turned out to be a run-feast at the Wankhade stadium in Mumbai as the tourists ended up with a monstrous total. South Africa's total is the third highest score in ODIs. Quinton de Kock, AB de Villiers and Faf du Plessis all cracked thrill-a-minute tons. The bowlers were smacked as though it is a shooting range and spectators ducked for cover in the stands.

Drinks are on the field now. AB de Villiers said at the toss that South Africa needed a solid platform and his players have responded very well. The pitch is absolutely true and shot making has been very easy. Although Faf is tiring, ABdV is fresh at the crease and we all know what he can do if he bats through. From this situation, India will be extremely happy to chase anything under 350 today. We saw Bhuvi bang the ball short in the last game and get three wickets in his final spell. However, it was a slow wicket back in Chennai and he will have to rethink his strategy.

It's time to say goodbye now. This is Sidhant Maheshwari, signing off on behalf of Mahesh, Bharath, Abhishek and my co-commentators, Ramakrishnan and Pradeep. Bye folks!

That brings us to the end of proceedings from this game. The focus now shifts to the Test arena, where both these sides will now lock horns in a 4-match series. After losing the T20I series and now the ODI series, India will look to make a strong comeback when these two teams next meet in the first Test in Mohali on November 5. On the other hand, the South Africans will surely be a strong challenge to India's dominance at home in the longest format of the game. So, don't forget to join us then to enjoy what should be a closely contested Test series.

Series summary:

In a series full of fluctuating fortunes, it was South Africa who held their nerve to emerge victorious. In fact, the visitors started on a good note by winning a humdinger in Kanpur. The hosts came from behind in Indore and overcame the Proteas. Fine performances from the pace duo of Morne Morkel and Rabada then put the Rainbow Nation back in the lead in Rajkot. Kohli's splendid ton brought it back to parity in the sweltering heat of Chennai. It was the tourists though, who won in Mumbai and clinched the series 3-2.

If we look back at individual performances, de Villiers was in supreme touch. He notched up three hundreds. du Plessis was ultra-consistent. de Kock too was in prime form and ended up with two hundreds to his name. Rabada, Steyn, Tahir and Morkel were all among the wickets. As for India, Rohit Sharma was in stellar form in the first game. MS Dhoni played a pugnacious knock in Indore. Kohli came into his own with a well-measured century in the 4th ODI. Rahane was in good touch as well. Harbhajan Singh was the best of the bowlers on show for the home team.

AB de Villiers collects the trophy and his team-mates join him to pose for the cameras.

MS Dhoni (1/2): "It was a lot humid. We started off very well, but they kept going once they got the partnership. Once they started to accelerate, it was almost impossible for us to stop them. There was no turn for the spinners and our pacers don't get the same amount of bounce as the South African bowlers do. Because of the start they got, over 350 was on the cards even if we bowled really well. All three hundreds (talking about de Kock, du Plessis and de Villiers) hurt as it was scored at a brisk pace. We lost it in the last 25 overs with the ball. The only way we could have got this is if one of our batsmen scored 150."

Dhoni (2/2): "I think the spinners fought hard throughout the series. We know that on this wicket, if it is on the flatter side, it is easy to hit sixes. Overall, nothing worked for us. There were occasions in the series where we should have done slightly better. But it was a decent series overall. This game was completely taken away from us. It happens in cricket. Otherwise a good performance from the team. I want the boys to enjoy the Test series. One session can change the game. They all know how to enjoy Test cricket and we've got a good team. We've got the fast bowlers to exploit reverse swing, but I think the spinners will hold the key."

de Villiers: "A very enjoyable performance today. I think we assessed the conditions nicely. The openers gave a nice foundation and gave us freedom to enjoy ourselves towards the end. Faf du Plessis played an incredible innings. It's a really good series win for us. He (Rabada) is an amazing bowler. He loves to learn and the potential he has shown is incredible. It's never easy touring India. It was a great series. It's always a great challenge when these two teams meet and I am very proud of the performance. I try to keep it as simple as possible (talking about his batting). I just try and watch the ball and enjoy as much as possible. It's an amazing experience to come here and hear all the support. It's a loud crowd here. A great day for South African cricket today. We haven't won a bilateral series here before and it's a proud moment."

AB de Villiers is the Man of the Series

de Kock: "I don't know what to say. I think they make good wickets here in India. I just had a good series, I am happy with my batting. Growing up I've always tried to get better at my keeping. I've never really been the best keeper around, I've worked hard at it and it's good to see the results."

Quinton de Kock is the Man of the Match

Zaheer Khan gets a special memento from Sharad Pawar (President, MCA), Sachin Tendulkar and Anurag Thakur (Honorary Secretary, BCCI) .

Zaheer (1/2): "The last 8 days have been very nostalgic. It all started here at the Wankhede. I came here as a spare bowler during the Titan cup and I am proud that I have come a long way. I was passionate about bowling. There has been a lot of support from different people at crucial stages of my career, especially at a young age. I am thankful and grateful to everyone. It's a very special feeling for me to get felicitated today. To MS (Dhoni), I know it's a tough day, but keep working hard. I am sure you will achieve quite a lot. To AB and his team, you have always been a tough opponent. I have always enjoyed the challenge on the field. You always bring out the best in me on the cricket field, congratulations on the series win. I am humbled and honoured to see the response after announcing my retirement."

Zaheer (2/2): The way everyone has showed the support and love, I can't thank you enough. It all started here 15-20 years, just happy that my final speech is happening here at the Wankhede in front of this special Mumbai crowd. Thank you all for the support. Keep supporting the Indian team, they need you all. I want to thank my mom and dad. They supported me and backed me throughout my career. They let me chase my dreams. It's an emotional moment for me. Thank you Sachin (Tendulkar) for coming here. To all my colleagues, it's been an amazing journey for me. I have enjoyed every victory and all the celebrations. I am going to miss them all. But everyone has to move on and the time now has come. I am happy that I have so many happy memories to walk away with. I have made so many friendships throughout my career. Thank you all, thank you so much. I will always cherish this day for the rest of my life

Zaheer Khan to have a chat about his retirement.

Faf du Plessis: "It was quite hot. The intensity was pretty high. I had to run a lot of twos. I am not as strong as MS (Dhoni) and those guys, who can just hit sixes. It was really tough for me. I was telling AB that I got nothing left in me, but he kept saying to me that you can still hit sixes. Quinny (de Kock) was amazing, my role was just to take the singles. AB too was fantastic. Unfortunately I couldn't field today, but it was an incredible win."

Among the Indian batsmen, Ajinkya Rahane showcased his fluid run-making ability by unfurling a series of shots. But he had too much to do. Once he fell, the glimmer of hope India had of making a match out of it was snuffed out. Kyle Abbott was good in his introductory spell. Kagiso Rabada again impressed and troubled all the Indian batsmen. He picked up four wickets. In short, South Africa registered a well-deserved win.

At the other end of the spectrum, de Villiers too changed gears and toyed with the bowlers. He followed in the footsteps of de Kock and du Plessis by smacking an enterprising century. It was his third ton in this series. Eventually, the tourists ended up with the third highest ODI total. For India, only Harbhajan Singh bowled with decent control.

Both batsmen flogged India's bowlers and explored every nook and cranny of the ground. In the 43rd over of the innings, du Plessis thumped Axar Patel for three sixes and a boundary. After cracking his century, he started to struggle with cramps. However, he still demonstrated the ability to play the big shot. The one-handed loft off Bhuvneshwar through the off-side defied logic. Unfortunately, he had to retire hurt.

Initially, it was de Kock who provided the impetus. He put on his full range of strokes to leave the opposition in a state of daze. du Plessis, who started rather sedately, then opened up his shoulders. Once de Kock was dismissed, du Plessis was joined at the crease by the '360-degree-man,' AB de Villiers.

The tourists put up a slick performance to seal their first ever ODI series win in India. This is also the first time India have lost a bilateral ODI series at home since 2012 December. It was de Kock, du Plessis and de Villiers, who built a skyscraper with sparkling tons. The trio played with a touch of adventurousness to rack up runs at will. The bowlers then backed them up with incisive spells as the hosts slipped towards a heavy defeat.

There's silence all around the Wankhede as the players walk off. The South Africans looks extremely happy as they shake hands with the Indian players. Lots of hugs and excitement in the dressing room as well for the Proteas. The rest of the Indian team walks out to congratulate their counterparts.

24.5 - Rabada to Raina, out Bowled!! This is really poor cricket from Raina and sensible stuff from young Rabada. Looks like Raina was only expecting the short deliveries from the South African pacers, but Rabada reminds him that he's a clever bowler and slips out a yorker to castle the left-hander. A 20-year-old has out-thought a 28-year-old here. That tells you the story. As always, Raina moves right across the stumps. The leg stump was exposed, Rabada targets the base of leg stump and nails the yorker to perfection. Raina tried to glance, but it was all too late. Raina b Rabada 12(13) [4s-1 6s-1]
